Cope with Christmas
Christmas is a time to be merry, but it can also cause stress and anxiety. Tensions can be high and we can lose sight of what is important.
This short video gives 3 quick tips to keep calm and enjoy your festive period. (These techniques help anytime of the year*)
3 Quick Tips
1. Breathe
Put your hand on your chest and take a deep breath.Notice where the breath is… is it up high or down in your belly?
Take another breath and this time try to push it down to your belly (you may want to move your hand to your belly to feel it move out).
Do this a few more times slowly and deeply in, even slower out…
Notice the change in your posture, your shoulders and jaw should be more relaxed.
2. Trigger phrase
We are going to focus on what we are grateful for. Not just think of one thing and swiftly move on, but actually take 2 or 3 minutes to think about Who and What are grateful for and Why.This will change the pathways in our mind and help us to focus on the positive things.
Giving us a nice warm feeling… And the Trigger Phrase?
Its “how are you?” everytime you hear it stop and reflect..
Who or What am I grateful for? And Why?
This mindset change is a real winner for those of us who are grinches at christmas!!
3. The most IMPORTANT THING
If you take nothing away from these please take this…
It is more important to be kind than to be right.
It is more important to be kind, than to be right….
If you repeat that over and over again it can genuinely change your christmas. You will be able to let go of the need to change others, their opinions and beliefs (even when they are SOOOO different to yours).
